El término de Street art se acuñó en los años 90, refiriéndose a todas las formas de expresión artística callejera. Traducido al castellano quedaría como Arte urbano, pero no solo aludiría al Graffiti (aunque este forma un pilar indispensable en él), las técnicas son diversas, como plantillas, posters, pegatinas, murales, etc.
Esta expresión artística se manifiesta principalmente en lugares públicos, con un objetivo principal: Sorprender al espectador, captar su atención. Adoptando en la última década un papel reivindicativo, llegando incluso a convertirse en la manifestación del pueblo, reflejando en ella las inquietudes de una sociedad.
Llegados a este punto, es prácticamente imposible hablar del Arte Urbano sin mencionar a Banksy. Un artista británico, del que se cree que nació en Bristol, convertido en un referente en el mundo Urbano. Oculta su identidad, por lo que a la sociedad en general le es imposible ponerle rostro y su independencia en cuanto a museos o exposiciones, dificulta su investigación.
Pero no es necesario conocer su edad, ni su nombre, para poder afirmar que en él reside lo que es el arte. Sus obras reflejan las grandes inquietudes de la sociedad de forma creativa y espontánea. Su trabajo, en su gran mayoría está compuesto por piezas satíricas sobre política, cultura, moralidad y etnias, donde combina escritura con graffiti y el uso de plantillas (stencils). Obras realizadas en ciudades como Londres, Berlin o NY.

Street Art term was first used in the 90’s, referring to all Street art expressions. Translated to Spanish, it’ll be known as “arte urbano” but it won’t just allude to Graffiti, as most people think (although it’s a really important part of that kind of art). Techniques are various, like templates, posters, stickers, murals, etcetera.
The Street Art expression is mainly used in public places with a main objective: surprise the viewer to catch their attention. It has taken, in the last decade, an advocacy role, becoming a public manifestation, reflecting the society’s concerns.
At this point, is practically impossible to talk about Street Art without alluding to Banksy, a British artist who is thought to have born in Bristol, became a benchmark of the urban world. He hides his identity therefore, to most of the people, he’s impossible to recognize and his independency regarding museums or expositions, hinders the way to investigate him.
However, it isn’t required to know about his age or name to be able to assert that in him lives the art. Banksy’s artworks reflects society’s concerns in a creative and spontaneous way. His work is mainly composed of satirical pieces of Politics, Culture, Moral and Ethnicities, where he combines writing, Graffiti and stencils. There are some workarts done in London, Berlin or New York.
